Proven Results
Pascal George, former Vice-President for Medical Programs at Blood Operations at New York Blood Center, an organization with 1000 employees which includes a major research division. He retained me to coach the below two valued physicians having difficulties operating within their organization, thus jeopardizing their careers:
Complex Expectations
Mr. George asked me to coach Dr. L, a female physician with an MBA, who was tasked to implement major changes that would impact the entire operation and was frustrated by the huge bureaucracy. The heavily regulated environment also stymied her much needed creativity. We retained Mel to coach her. Within two months, she was practicing effective relations management and stopped being obstructive. She went on to successfully execute highly
complex projects.
Awkward Politics
At Mr. George’s request, I coached Dr. D, a male MD scientist, who was reporting to two directors. He soon fell victim to the conflicting priorities between these two leaders. With Mel’s coaching, Dr. D made a remarkable recovery, regaining the trust and support of both leaders through a better understanding of their motivations and of the dynamics of the organization.
Leadership Responsibilities/Challenges
From management skills to staff issues, working with board members, offering financial guidance, understanding the medical delivery system and the strategies to promote public awareness, Mel’s always insightful consultations added just the special note to keep myself and my husband, William Van Oste MD, on a very successful track. He is a brilliant but gentle man.
